Social Saturdays and Social Sundays Fall 2025
-ages 5-11-
These monthly meetings are held at KindTreeKids (located at 3191 Burgundy Road, Decatur 30033) where mindfulness meets social thinking.
We learn best when it’s fun, and that’s what we want for your children, too! Each Social Saturday/Sunday comes with a detailed recap note that not only explains what we did in great detail, but also offers parenting support and take-home ideas. You will be equipped to go over the program with your child and feel confident in ways to continue the support in other settings!
OUR FALL THEME: BIG FEELINGS, WISE CHOICES.
Our KindTreeKids will be exploring how our choices can impact our experience. Children are very quick to get caught up in the stories that we create, which makes the situation much bigger/harder than it actually happens to be. This doesn't mean they are dramatic or delusional; it means that they need support in understanding the "why" these feelings/sensations get so big so fast! When we create opportunities for children to practice applying these tools in safe spaces with appropriate support, we can start to see the dial shift directions as they feel more confident! Consistency with home carryover will make these strategies more accessible, which allows for more successful outcomes in those sticky moments! We will discover pathways to:
manage our frustrations
notice and watch the emotions rather than letting them take over
decide how to make the helpful (versus harmful) choices (we have the power to change our experiences!)
take perspective to remember that it really could be worse
embrace our uniqueness and practice inclusion
KindTreeKids is passionate about providing a supportive environment where children can explore their emotions, practice self-advocacy, and learn strategies to manage their reactions— all through play. We break down complex emotional concepts into kid-friendly language and interactive activities, empowering children to become more emotionally resilient, self-aware, and equipped with lifelong skills for understanding themselves and others.

September 20/21, 2025 - Managing Our Frustrations

December 6/7, 2025 - (FALL HIKE) Perspective Taking
MORE ABOUT OUR TOPICS:
AUGUST 23/24 - HELPFUL, NOT HARMFUL. We have the power to choose our response! I love how this book reminds us that when we pause to think if this choice will make things better or worse (for us *and* others), we can impact the outcome! We will be reminded about the things we cannot control and the things we can (like our responses to every emotion/feeling/sensation we have!) We aren't choosing to be "bad" or "good" but we are choosing to stop and think about how our thoughts/words/actions can impact any experience!
SEPTEMBER 20/21 - MANAGING OUR FRUSTRATIONS. Getting frustrated happens all the time! It can feel like flames swooping in our bodies when our internal and external experience gets really big! This weekend, our KindTreeKids will learn how to 1. identfy what makes us feel frustrated. 2. recognize the signs and body sensations that we are getting frustrated. And 3. use tools that help "put out the flames" before they get out of hand! Teaching children that anger and frustration are perfectly normal and sitting with those feelings to unpack the frustration (rather than reacting from it) allows us to remember we can choose our responses for different outcomes.
OCTOBER 11/12 - WE ARE NOT OUR EMOTIONS. It's so easy to just let the emotions take control and lose sight of some really powerful and empowering tools we all have. This isn't just with our children, it is a struggle that each of us navigate all the time. It's important to normalize and validate that all emotions are okay....it's what we do with them that matters. When we can stop and notice what is happening we can make a choice to let it go. Letting it go doesn't mean that we are just pretending it doesn't exist. Letting go means that we are leaning in and learning to sit with discomfort.
NOVEMBER 15/16 - DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION. While this book is about a zebra with autism, the overall theme is designed to encourage us to remember individuality, self-acceptance, and the importance of embracing differences, with or without an actual diagnosis. We will explore what makes our own unique stripes and discuss ways to recognize and celebrate all of our uniqueness daily! Most of us are neurodivergent in some capacity so this is a beautiful opportunity for us to remember all the ways we can be neuro-affirming to ourselves and others.
DECEMBER 6/7 - (FALL HIKE) PERSPECTIVE TAKING. This session is held at a different location. My Grandma used to always say "It could be worse!" and I didn't love it when she said that because I knew it was the truth. This book has a charming way of illustrating that the situation can almost always be worse than the moment you think it's the ABSOLUTE worst it can get! Perspective taking is very hard for kids. It's mostly hard because we aren't taking that moment to sit with the situation and really process outcomes. To sit with those moments, that means we have to SLOW down and there is no better way to practice slowing our minds and bodies down than in nature which is where we will be discussing ways to look differently at each situation and find a way to change our outlook.
These groups are limited in size and they fill up VERY quickly so please take this into consideration when you register!
***Cancellations must be done at least 7 DAYS prior to the August session for you to move the deposit to another program. The cancellation policy is outlined in further detail on the registration page. By registering for this program, you agree to these terms. Thank you for your understanding!
