OUR SPRING THEME: OUR INSIDE THINKING SKILLS

Our KindTreeKids will be learning about managing our emotions- let's call these OUR INSIDE THINKING SKILLS. Emotional regulation talk is rampant in our world today. It's critical for a child to inherently understand how our responses directly impact our experiences as well as other's experiences! This season, we will explore the following topics: Jealousy, Impulsivity, Motivation, Self-Discipline, and Gratitude. They are all tied into our own self awareness, self worth, and growth mindset. Each session, our topics will help us connect to three bigger skills:

  • self-awareness (noticing what we feel when we have this emotion/feeling/experience)

  • emotional regulation (managing how we respond to these feelings)

  • social/emotional IQ (understanding how our responses affect friendships and how others might feel)

KindTreeKids is passionate about providing a supportive environment where children can explore their emotions, practice self-advocacy, and learn strategies to manage their reactions— all through play. We break down complex emotional concepts into kid-friendly language and interactive activities, empowering children to become more emotionally resilient, self-aware, and equipped with lifelong skills for understanding themselves and others.

SPRING 2026 PROGRAM DATES:

January 24/25 - Self-discipline
February 28/March 1 - Jealousy
March 21/22 - Impulsivity
April 18/19 - Motivation
May 9/10 - (SPRING HIKE) Gratitude & Reflection

MORE ABOUT OUR TOPICS:

  • JANUARY 24/25 - SELF-DISCIPLINE. This book teaches children that self-discipline is not about being perfect but about making small, positive choices every day. It highlights how sticking to a plan and working through challenges helps build confidence and achieve goals. Teaching kids the value of self-discipline early on encourages responsibility, perseverance, and the ability to manage their actions, which are essential life skills. Learning about self-discipline will lay the foundation we need to build our "inside skills" that we will learn more about as the season progresses.

  • FEBRUARY 28/MARCH 1 - JEALOUSY. BUT THAT'S NOT FAIR!!!!! Ever heard that? Meeee toooo! Dealing with jealousy in children involves helping them recognize and understand the emotion, as well as teaching strategies to manage it in healthy ways. At this age, children may feel jealous of their peers' abilities, possessions, or friendships, which can lead to frustration, comparison, and even conflict. It's important to normalize the feeling by acknowledging that everyone experiences jealousy at times, but it's how we respond to it that makes a difference.

  • MARCH 21/22 - IMPULSIVITY. ACTING WITHOUT THINKING. Being impulsive can sometimes make things worse. Through practice, we can develop the skill of pausing, thinking carefully, and making thoughtful decisions before acting. We will discuss the importance of self-control and how taking a moment to think can help us make better choices. Understanding impulsivity *and* practicing it helps us develop patience, improve decision-making, and learn to manage our emotions in challenging situations.

  • APRIL 18/19 - MOTIVATION. We all struggle with staying motivated, especially when faced with tough challenges. We often can feel like giving up when things get difficult, but we will learn that motivation comes from within and grows stronger when we set goals and keep practicing, even when it’s hard. Through persistence and focus, we can push through obstacles and stay determined. We will be reminded that motivation isn't always automatic, but it can be built through effort, patience, and a positive attitude. Teaching children about motivation encourages them to stay committed to their goals and reminds them that hard work pays off over time.

  • MAY 9/10 - (SPRING HIKE) GRATITUDE & REFLECTION. This session is held at a different location. Research shows that gratitude practices improve well-being, reduce stress, and increase motivation. But here’s what matters for resilience: gratitude shifts attention from what’s missing to what is working. Gratitude practices can help teach children to view challenges as opportunities and to value effort over outcomes. During our hike, we will take advantage of the open heart space that comes from being outside in nature to reflect and offer gratitude for our new inside thinking skills and tools we have learned this season!

These groups are limited in size, and they fill up VERY quickly so please take this into consideration when you register!
